UP police halts a christian prayer meeting attended by 150 people including 11 American tourists on Friday, based on a complaint registered by Hindu Yuva Vahini.
Hindu Yuva Vahini accusing the event was a cover for religious conversions.
We stopped the meeting after the complaint was registered as there was no prior permission taken. The prob is underway and appropriate action will be taken if the charges are correct, said Mr. Anand Kumar Gupta, SHO.
The US nationals who were present in the meeting were cleared after checking their Visas and necessary documents.
The church authorities dismisses the allegations of Hindu group. People attended the prayer meeting voluntarily and it’s a regular gathering for worshiping god, said the church pastor.
The presence of US nationals indicates that innocent and illiterate Hindus were being converted by the missionaries, who lured them with money to change their religion,” said Krishna Nandan, a Hindu Yuva Vahini leader who surrounded the church with his supporters in the afternoon.
However Mr. Nandan was not happy that the Americans were cleared.
